Black Women I look up to

Because it is Black History month, I would like to talk about the Black women I look up to. Growing up the only woman, person I would look up to is my mother. I remember her always telling me to always be better than her. However, there are some traits that she has that makes me want to be her.

1. My Beautiful Mother

This woman has always been there for me. There is nothing that can keep me away from her, no matter how many arguments we have. Growing up, she would never sugarcoat anything. If we were having money problems, she wouldn’t promise me that I could have the things I ask for, but she would work so hard to keep me happy.

My mom is one of the strongest people I know. For as long as I could remember, I’ve only seen her cry about four times in my almost 20 years of life. I’ve seen her get hurt so many times throughout my life, and all she does is pushes through it, work hard just to provide for me.

Even though she wants me to be better than her, I would love to have the heart that she has. I don’t think anyone understands how big her heart is. She has love for anyone, although it is a tough love, you’ll know it’s realer than a sugarcoated love.

2. Marsai Martin

This 15 year old Actress and producer amazes me. Yes I said 15 year old and producer in the same sentence. Marsai’s acting career has just begun in 2014 when she was only 10 years old, casting in the ABC comedy series Black-ish. When I first started watching the show, I couldn’t believe she just started acting, I thought she deserved more recognition. Soon, Marsai started to become a meme with her dance moves and her reactions in some of the award shows, that’s when everyone started recognizing her.

In 2019, 5 years into her acting career, at 14 years old, She became executive producer to the movie ‘Little’. This film grossed over $48 million worldwide! Imagine, being 14 years old having a movie idea, inspired by a classic and having it come to life and earning that much money. Marsai Martin’s net worth jumped from $100,000-$1 Million in 2018 to $1 Million – $5 Million Approximately! Do you know why I look up to this ‘Brain Child’? She doesn’t let anyone belittle her because of her age. This girl has her own Production Company! She will be set for the rest of her life. If she’s doing these things now, imagine what she’ll be doing once she becomes an adult. I don’t know Marsai personally, but I am so proud of her!

3. Beyonce Knowles

Now you know Queen Bey was going to be on my list! I not only admire her beauty, or her long term work ethic, but I admire her unbotheredness, and if she is bothered, no one will ever know, unless she makes an album about it. Beyonce Knowles is one of the most hardworking women in the world. Her career started when she was just a child. She’s been working non-stop, just for her fans. I would sometimes catch myself wondering, “What achievement does Beyonce have to accomplish to know that she has made it, and begin retirement .” I know she’s only 38, but she has been in the game for so long and there is no sign of stopping.

I also admire her talent. With her talent she makes sure every generation enjoys her music. Her voice is Rated E for everyone. I think I came to the conclusion that Beyonce has haters just because she isn’t problematic. And they assume that she thinks that she is better than everyone else. There is no reason not to love this woman. She represents for our people, women, and she just seems like the most sweetest woman ever! One of my goals as a jouralist is to get to interview her, I know she doesn’t do interviews with just anyone, but one day I hope she sees this and get in contact with me ;).

4. Brittany Renner

I first noticed Brittany Renner on Instagram. My first thought was, “wow she’s really pretty, and funny” So I followed her. I didn’t know anything about her besides her being an Instagram model. When I first followed her she instructed her own Fitness Bootcamp, hence the image above, you can tell why alot of people joined her bootcamp.

The thing about Brittany Renner is that she is more than just a pretty face and banging body, she is so intelligent and she knows what she’s talking about. My favorite part about her Instagram page, is her Ted Talks, mostly the Self Love videos. And she’s so entertaining when she does them, you have no choice but to be tuned in when she talks.

I look up to her because she’s so confident. When I think of confidence, I think of Brittany. She doesn’t act perfect, she has her times. But do you know what she does? Work harder. She once made an appearance on a BET series ‘American Soul’. Not only that, she wrote her own book ‘Judge this Cover’ speaking on her life and past relationships. From just that book alone you know she’s been through a lot. Even with all the rumors and hate getting spit at her, she’s still living her life and her dream. I wish for the day I meet her in person, just to talk!

The one thing each woman on this list has, that I look up to them for, is that they are all hard workers. I respect them for being so strong and ambitious, and I am working to be as motivated as they are. When I think of success, I picture these four women in myself .

Don’t worry, this list can go on for years!
